Have you ever wondered, “where can I find a female role model in __?” (<- Insert STEM career position)
I began thinking about this more and more after entering the Engineering field. There are many things that have led to the gender gap in STEM. Strategies for overcoming the gap seem unclear at best. I believe, as Sally Ride once said, “You can’t be what you can’t see.” It is important for us to highlight and celebrate women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This notion gave me the idea to start a podcast. It combines two things that I love – networking and talking with inspiring, intellectual women from around the world. My goal is to bring role models to young ears, to show youth that hard work and perseverance can pay off, even if a career path or major seems difficult or unwelcoming at the beginning.
Together, we can change the dialogue about gender parity in STEM. Together we can help more youth realize their potential in STEM fields.
I welcome suggested interview questions, requests for specific STEM fields you’d like us to discuss on the podcast, and honest feedback on improving as an interviewer. Please get in touch with me via twitter or email and I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂
